12 stylish portraits of young, independent Mumbai women

Blending fashion, art and social commentary, the photographic series captures a dozen young and independent Indian women as they follow their dreams and carve out careers.
Prarthna Singh is a photographer who likes to keep her lens trained between art and fashion.
Starting this month through August, Singh will exhibit a photographic collaboration with luxury jewelry brand Mawi London, which will be displayed at chic new Mumbai store Le Mill.
The series is entitled "Twelve" and features a dozen independent young women living in Mumbai, captured in an intimate mood, wearing Mawi's bold, sculptural jewelry.
“The jewellery isn't a contrived addition, blindly adopted from a magazine page, I have instead tried to create a more intimate connection between the wearer and the object," says Singh, whose approach to fashion challenges shallow stereotypes.
"I want this collaboration to be a project that combines my artistic vision and Mawi's statement pieces to create a portrait of the urban, Indian working woman.”
